SWUG Leadership Scholarship

The SWUG Leadership Scholarship is a biennial prize awarded to outstanding future leaders in the newspaper sector.

It was introduced by the SWUG Committee to acknowledge, educate, encourage and reward up-and-coming leaders in the Australian coldset newspaper printing industry. The winner of the scholarship receives an all expenses paid educational trip to the value of $20,000 to visit a range of international printing and supplier sites as well as a major international trade show.

Applications or nominations for the scholarship must be in writing and include supporting documentation of achievements. All entries must be authorised and signed by the applicants’ employer or senior manager.

To be eligible for the scholarship the following criteria must be met:

  1. Dedication, motivation and enthusiasm for the single width coldest newspaper printing industry as demonstrated through his/her leadership with colleagues and/or customers.

  2. Promotes the importance and support of the industry within their organisation or business unit.

  3. Reflects the importance of leading-edge technology and addresses the most current needs of the industry through education and training programs.

  4. A specific example of industry or training accomplishment attributed to the individual.

  5. Demonstrated leadership.

  6. Demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental issues in the single width newspaper printing industry.

  7. Minimum of five years industry experience.
